J Sainsbury plc is currently the second largest supermarket chain in the UK.
Sainsbury’s was established in 1869, by John James Sainsbury as a retailer of fresh foods in a shop on Drury Lane in Covent Garden, London.
Packaged groceries were introduced in 1903, and every shop offered home delivery. It offered centrally located shops and a trading philosophy of “Quality perfect, prices lower”.
Inspired by a visit to the US, Alan Sainsbury was convinced that the future for supermarkets lay with self-service and the availability of car parking.
The first self-service branch opened in Croydon in 1950.
Sainsbury’s offers a range of travel money services including currency exchange and a prepaid travel money card. Here’s an overview of the pros and cons to help you decide if Sainsbury’s is the right choice for your travel money needs.
