Who is Travelex?

Founded by Sir Lloyd Dorfman in 1976, Travelex started as a single store in London, benefiting from financial deregulation in 1979 to trade foreign currencies.

By the 1980s, it expanded into international markets with its first overseas store in Rotterdam and entered Heathrow Airport as the first non-bank forex retailer.

The 1990s marked rapid global expansion into the U.S. and APAC, acquisitions such as Transpay, and the launch of online services.

In 2001, Travelex acquired Thomas Cook Global Financial Services, gaining a global network and rebranding as ‘Worldwide Money.’

In the 2010s, Travelex embraced fintech, introducing multicurrency prepaid cards, the Travelex Money App, and international payment solutions.
